Matjaž Bogataj (1987) represents a young generation of Slovenian violinists. In 2017 Bogataj was tenured as principal second violin of the prestigious Bavarian State Opera Orchestra under the leadership of Kirill Petrenko. Previously, Bogataj was a permanent member of the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra as assistant principal second violin.
Bogataj completed his studies with highest distinction: he received his Master’s of Solo Violin under the guidance of Silvia Marcovici at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and his Master’s of Chamber Music – Piano Trio at the College of Music and Theater in Munich under the guidance of prof. Wen Sinn Yang and Michael Schäfer.
In addition to his obligations in Munich, Bogataj is a dedicated member of the Munich ARTISTrio, which he founded in 2012 with his sister Maruša. In September 2013 the Munich ARTISTrio was the only piano trio in the finals of 14th competition ACM Trio di Trieste and was awarded the Second Prize. The trio has recorded for Bayerische Rundfunk Klassik and RTV Slovenija. Munich ARTISTrio has also been recorded live by BR, ORF, RAI and RTV Slovenia.
