Luka Mitev is a Slovenian bassoon player. He has been a member of the Karajan Academy of
Berlin Philharmonic since January 2021, where he receives lessons from principal bassoonist
Stefan Schweigert, as well as from other members of the orchestra.
He received his first bassoon lessons at the age of seven by his father Zoran Mitev. After
completing his bachelor’s degree in Salzburg with Prof. Marco Postinghel, he moved to Berlin,
where he is studying for a master’s degree with Prof. Volker Tessmann at the Hochschule für
Musik Hanns Eisler. For both degrees, Luka was awarded scholarships by the Slovenian cultural
ministry.
Luka Mitev was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2016 to 2019 and of the
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in 2020/21. He won multiple national competitions in Slovenia
and several international competitions, one of which was the first prize at the Concertino Praga in
2014.
Luka Mitev regularly plays as a chamber and orchestra musician with important international
orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mahler
Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and others.
